Member Directory
On to the new stuff: “Member Directory” (don’t worry, we’ll come back to “
A side note: there have been a few problems with the website randomly not allowing people to sign in. The fellow at the Help Desk recommended “deleting your cookies” if this happens. If you don’t know how to delete your cookies, send me an email and I can explain the process. We found that once we did this, we could log in and stay logged in on our home computer.
Okay, back to the directory. Click “Member Directory.” You’ll see the alphabet across the top of the page and a gray box below that says “Click on the letter of the last name, or search.” By clicking a letter, you’ll reveal anyone in the directory whose last name starts with that letter (for instance: “A” reveals Aherns-Bill and Alford-Louella). Next to each name is the person or family’s address and phone number.
If you want more information about the person or family, click on their last name. For instance, you can’t remember Charlie and Melodie Easter’s daughter’s name. You click on “Easter” and a new box will open with their family picture (if one has been made available) and their children’s names. Click “close” on this box to close it and return to the “E” page in the directory.
If you want to email someone in the directory, you float the cursor (your little arrow) over their name and a yellowish box will reveal that person’s email address. All first names in dark blue have an email address attached to them. Depending on how your computer is set up, clicking on the first name will open your default email program and automatically start a message to the person you selected.
You can also search the directory. Beneath the row of alphabet letters there is a box that says: “Search for items that:” Then you can select, “contain,” “start with,” “end with,” or “are exactly” from the drop down box. Type in your search criteria in the empty box to the right of the drop down box. For instance, you want to know everyone in church whose last name starts with “Mc.” Select “starts with” from the drop down menu, type in “mc” and click “Go”—it will bring up McDonald-John and Kris, and McDonald-Randy and Lana.
If you just want to see everyone all in one place, below the gray boxes that list everyone’s name there is an option called “Printable Directory.” You don’t actually have to print to look at it. If you want to include pictures check the box that says, “Include Pictures” then click “Go.”
This will open an Adobe Reader file. Most computers have Adobe already installed on them. If not, your computer will let you know. Once the Adobe file is open, you’ll be able to page through the directory and see everyone’s pictures, email addresses, family members’ names, addresses and phone numbers all in the same place.
If you do want to print, there will be a tiny picture of a printer on the row at the top of this Internet page. Clicking it will get you printing. Or you can go to “File” then “Print” then “Okay.”
Got all that? That’s a lot of instructions to read through, but you’ll probably be able to figure it out just by clicking around yourself. Let me know if you have any questions, I’m happy to help in any way I can.
