About WCC and Our Pastor
Thanks for logging on to Wintersetcommunitychurch.org. Our vision is to live in community with God, each other, and our neighbor (Matthew 22:37-39). We do that through Sunday morning worship, home groups, and volunteering in the community of Winterset. WCC is part of the Evangelical Free Church of America. For more information about the EFCA go to www.efca.org. We have 4 key values at WCC: 1. A Conservative Christian Faith(1Timothy 4:16; Jude 3); 2. A Casual Christian Enviroment (Matthew 11:28-29); 3. A Contemporary Style of Worship (Mark 7:5, 8); 4. A Community Driven Life (Acts 2:44, 46).
My name is Scott O'Conner. I graduated with a bachelors degree from Simpson College in Indianola, Iowa and a Master of Theology degree from Dallas Theological Seminary in Dallas, Texas. I have been the pastor of WCC since January of 2000. My favorite authors include - John Eldredge, John Ortberg, C.S. Lewis, and Brennan Manning.
I am evangelical in my theology. I believe all theological systems (Roman Catholic, Lutheran, Reformed, Arminian, Baptist, Charismatic, Dispensational) are genuine attempts by Christians to understand and define the Christian faith. I personally believe the truth lies within but beyond each system of theology. I try not to be overly dogmatic in my understanding of theology except where theological systems converge i.e. Jesus is the Son of God who died for our sins and rose again. I believe that embracing a theological system lends itself to polemical preaching of 'your' preferred system against other competing systems. God gets lost in the process. I seek to preach clearly from Scripture but beyond theological systems. We have people at WCC from a wide range of church backgrounds - Roman Catholic, Lutheran, Methodist, Baptist, Charismatic, and some with no religious background at all.
I invite you to come and visit. I hope you will experience a spirit of unity and faith in Jesus Christ.
