We believe a key process in spiritual growth is through developing relationships with others (Romans 12:10-13). A Community Group is a small group of people who study God’s word together and discuss the issues and challenges of life. It is also where they pray, care for one another, and are missed if they don’t show up.

What is a Community Group?

Community Groups are small groups made up of ten to twelve individuals (couples, singles) that meet weekly in someone’s home for fellowship, Bible study, and prayer. They are made up of adults of all ages, stages of life, and spiritual maturity.

When and where do Community Groups meet?

Our groups meet on Wednesday evenings from 6:30 – 8:00 p.m. While most groups meet in a consistent location (the home of a group member), some groups may prefer to take turns meeting in different members’ homes.

How often do Community Groups meet?

Groups will meet for a nine month period beginning in September and ending in May. They meet weekly taking the first Wednesday of the month off.

What goes on at a Community Group meeting?

Groups will have a time to visit at the beginning before transitioning to a time to pray for each other. After prayer, groups will have a lesson led by the Group leader. All groups go through the same study that is either topical or a study on scripture.

Is childcare provided for each Group meeting?

Yes. Childcare is provided for children ages 5 and younger at the church. Childcare providers will be available at 6:00 p.m. for you to drop of your little ones. For older children, we encourage parents to get their children involved in the AWANA ministry at Winterset's First Baptist Church.

How are Community Groups Formed?

There will be sign up cards available at the beginning of each Fall session. You can find these on the Welcome Table and in your bulletin. We will have a Community Group Kickoff during the last weekend of August of each year. It will be during this time that you will be introduced to your new group.

If you are new to WCC, give Dan Drey a call (462-9923). He can help put you in touch with a Community Group leader, so you can begin to get connected at WCC!

What happens after a Community Group ends in May; will we continue to meet with the same group?

After your small group ends in May, you will be selected for another group to begin in September. We believe that in order for WCC to foster community with each other, it is important for us to develop relationships with more individuals than just one small group. It is simply impossible to develop deep relationships with people during a morning worship service. The Community Group method provides an opportunity to meet and develop close relationships with more people than just one isolated small group.

Romans 12:10-13 says that we should “Be devoted to one another in brotherly love. Honor one another above yourselves.   11 Never be lacking in zeal, but keep your spiritual fervor, serving the Lord.   12 Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer. 13 Share with God's people who are in need. Practice hospitality.”
