Church Picnic 2008

September 28th broke a chilly, rainy day--but Pastor Scott didn't let the weather dampen any excitement for that afternoon's all-church picnic. With a grin, he assured everyone the weather would be perfect, and wouldn't you know it? Just 10 minutes before the picnic was about to begin, God honored Pastor Scott's optimism as the clouds drifted away and bright sunshine filled the community.
In Winterset's City Park, North Shelter, piles of tasty food began filling the tables. In fact, the dessert table quickly ran out of room and required a second to help manage the load! Friendly voices echoed through the open air shelter as children dashed here and there on the nearby playground equipment.
Pastor Scott asked a blessing on the food, and the lines began to form. Families and friends sat down at the long picnic tables and thoroughly enjoyed each other's company.
When the plates were cleared, everyone gathered under the bright blue sky to watch as several members of the congregation declared their faith in Jesus by being baptized. Pastor Scott joked that we were spoiling the baptism candidates today, as the big metal "tub" was filled with heated water. In joyful celebration the gathered congregation cheered on the married couples, the single guys, the young ladies, and the adults who chose to honor God with this simple act of obedience.
As those who were baptized changed back into dry clothes, the opportunity to play games on the west lawn was extended to the crowd. The children took off quickest and filled the teams with enthusiasm and energy. It was a special time for our congregation, and next year's all-church picnic can't arrive soon enough!
