Youth Pastor "Cat in Hat" for Local Schools

In celebration of Seuss

It’s Diffendoofer Day did you say?

Why’s that, what’s that?—Dr. Seuss’s birthday!

There’s so much to do, so much to see;

Come along, come along, come with me.

One class to visit, two classes, three, four—

The Cat in the Hat, but wait there’s much more!

One cat, two cats, now there are three?

Who, oh who, could all these cats be?

You might think you know, but my friend you do not—

That afternoon cat was our own Dr. Scott!

Another one (no he is not a shark)

The second cat was senior, Mr. Drake Clark.

Three cats in costume, this one’s no shock,

Helping the librarian was Pastor Jay Bock!

So many fun things, fun things still to do . . .

We’ve only just started, yes me, and yes you!

Look here, look there, look up, and look down,

Books and more books are all, all around.

From the school, the big school, just up the street,

Sixth graders visited elementary-goers, oh what a treat!

Reading stories and rhymes to the delight of them all—

How nice, yes how nice, they took care of the small.

Next off to the Middle School, next we must dash,

To see what we see, as we dash in a flash.

On the stage of grade five, things are ever a flurry . . .

Guests are coming, they are coming, oh yes we must hurry!

Reading and acting Myrtle the Turtle Mrs. Liechty’s class did,

Each fifth grader paired with at least one smaller kid.
With props, books, and games they themselves made,

During school, yes school how they played and they played.

When the dismissal bell rang, everyone so sad to be done . . .

Diffendoofer Day is always such fun!

But wait, not quite yet, don’t you pout, don’t you cry—

Just hold on one minute, and I’ll tell you why.

Later that evening at the elementary school door,

Mrs. Rebecca Bock invited everyone back for some more—

“This time bring your mom (but don’t hop on your pop),

We’re not quite ready for Diffendoofer Day to stop!

Make the school your home, find some cozy nook,

Sit down with your family and enjoy a good book.

Perhaps, if you’d like, make a craft or some art . . .

We’ll show you just where, just where you can start.”

“Dr. Seuss on the Loose” was the name of the night;

From 6:30 to 7:30, the time was just right.

On loan from the public library a storyteller so fair,

Librarian Sally Morris was glad to be there.

To end off the night—books, books galore!

Many swapped old books for “new” books to read and explore.

Thanks teachers, thanks principals, thanks staff and the rest,

Diffendoofer Day 2009 might be one of the best!

Celebrate many, celebrate all,

Each kid, every kid today had a ball!

So Happy Birthday to you, Happy Birthday dear Seuss,

You’ll always be our favorite doodle snarpoose.
