April Newsletter

Happy April to you all!

March was a busy month for me personally- I bought a house and moved into it, got married, and took a week long honeymoon to Florida. It has been exhausting, but I am reminded to count my blessing daily. I pray that you too are counting your blessings.

It would be easy for us to get in the habit of being negative, especially through this long hard winter. But as the robins come back to town, the flowers start to push through the soil and the warm winds start to blow from the south, I want to encourage you to take time to look at God’s creation. Look for glimpses of God in the sunset, the chirping birds and the kids playing outside again- He will be there.

Our lessons in youth group this year have mirrored the Sermons preached each Sunday, and as we are working toward the end of the “Jesus is Coming to America Tour”, I want to encourage you to talk to your kids about what we are learning in youth. Ask your children what we are talking about, ask them for the main points of the week’s lesson, and make them think about what we are learning. I am sure it will benefit everyone involved.

March was a great month of youth. We are consistently seeing more students than we have ever seen in junior and senior high and are seeing the students build relationships with each other that will glorify God for years to come. Each week we dig into the Bible and discuss topics that challenge the kids to look at their own lives and ask what condition their heart is in (Luke 8) or look outside and see the condition of their culture. Then we like to ask what we can do about it!

This weekend the senior high youth went to their 3rd annual dodge ball tournament at Martensdale. WCC made a good showing again this year and came back home with the trophy, but more importantly, we had a great time practicing Christian community with the other churches in the tournament.

Mark your calendar!

The EFCA Central District is fortunate to have Hidden Acres Christian Camp as a resource for our students and families. Throughout the summer they provide many different camps and retreats for children from kindergarten through senior high, as well as family camps, and other special retreats for groups like fathers and sons. For more information visit www.hacamps.org, contact me, or look on the back table at the church for a brochure and calendar of this year’s camps at Hidden Acres.

Challenge ‘08

This Summer WCC is planning on attending Challenge- the Evangelical Free Church’s national youth conference. Pray for this event as this is the first trip like this that WCC has ever taken and has the potential to change lives forever. We will be teaming up Lighthouse Community Church on transportation to cut down on some of our costs. The trip will run from June 27 through July 6.

This Sunday April 6th at 2PM- Informational meeting about Challenge ’08. Any students and parents who want to learn more about the trip we are planning to Challenge are encouraged to attend. Current high school students and 8th grade students are welcome.

VBS

Last year was the first year WCC hosted a week of vacation bible school and found great success. This year we are planning and praying for another great year. All children are welcome to be a part of this week of learning about God and serving our community from June 2-6.

Peace in Christ:
