WCC Youth Newsletter: September ‘08

After coming off a great summer of activities and late-night youth events, the school year is off to a great start as more students get into the habit of attending youth each week. It is encouraging to see all the students who I had lost connection with being a part of youth again. I know God can do great things this fall as we come together in His name.

In August, WCC was excited to start the remodel project on our building. The remodel project has displaced the Sunday morning worship to the new community building at the fairgrounds and the youth are now meeting in a building on the square (see below). Please be patient and stay involved while we go through these exciting and blessed changes.

A few notes from the WCC youth department-

1- All youth groups will now be meeting above the old corner bookstore. To get to the new meeting place, please enter the first white door east of the old bookstore
entrance, go up the stairs and go into the first door on the left. Signs will be posted.

2- Please do not bring any food with you to youth. We are able to use the facilities free ofcharge, so let’s respect the space and keep it clean.

3- Middle school youth (5th-6th grade) has moved from Tuesday to Thursday. Now,instead of meeting on Tuesday, we will be meeting on Thursday from 3:30-5:00.

4- This month we will be starting a high school leadership team. This will be a group of high school students who are interested in taking a leadership role in the youth group. Students will be asked to attend monthly meetings, assist in some decision making and planning, and be involved in helping with various youth activities. We will schedule our leadership meetings once we have a chance to look at the calendars of the students on the team. Applications to join the team will be available at youth starting this week.

5- The E-Free Central District offers a senior high leadership conference at Hidden Acres called “Elevate.” Elevate is intended for high school aged “ministry level students” who have a desire to reach others for Christ. I would be encouraged to see any students interested in joining the leadership team attend Elevate. The event runs September 20-21 and registration is only $50.

6- I am still looking for a youth sponsor to help with the middle school youth. If you are interested in learning more about helping on Thursday afternoons, please call me.

A final thought:
Many college freshmen have officially made their way away from home and started out on the next phase of their life’s journey. The college years are filled with opportunities. Some of these opportunities offer the chance to grow and mature, but other options strike me as a distinct offense to God. Please join me in praying for our college students--pray that they would not lose sight of God, pray that their college years would draw them closer to God, pray that they would see his love and fall more in love with Him. Let them know that just because they have left home doesn’t mean they’ve left our hearts and minds.
